Review GOWRAN PARK 4th May

Chinese White staked her Classic claims with a commanding performance in the I.S.F EBF Victor McCalmont Memorial Stakes.

Dermot Weld's filly already featured prominently in the betting for the Juddmonte Oaks, even though she had just the one racecourse appearance under her belt.

But the 5-4 favourite travelled like a class act throughout this Listed contest in the hands of Pat Smullen and eased to the front with two furlongs to go.

She looked about a bit once taking up the running but Smullen didn't have to get too serious and she maintained her unbeaten record at the expense of Zafayra, who was four and a half lengths adrift at the line.

Aidan O'Brien followed last year's victory of Mahler when Hebridean picked up well in the straight to land the PricewaterhouseCoopers Classic Trial.

Settled towards the rear in the early stages by Seamus Heffernan, the 11-4 chance began to make ground as the field turned for home in the mile-and-a-half contest.

The gelding quickened to the lead a furlong out and was not hard pressed to beat the John Oxx-trained Ebadiyan by three and a half lengths.

Ryehill Dreamer got favourite-backers off to a flying start when making it second-time lucky in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden.

Second to Vilasol on his Leopardstown debut, the 5-4 market leader made his experience tell in accounting for Mr Topaz by half a length.

Sam James got a winning tune out of the Kevin Prendergast-trained Almass (7-1) to hold the persistent challenge of Russian Empress by a length and three quarters in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF (Fillies) Handicap.

Ready To Rocknroll finally shed his maiden tag with a determined display in the Thomastown (C&G) Maiden.

Racing prominently throughout, the 7-1 chance repelled the challenge of El Presidente to score by a head.
