Review KILBEGGAN 21ST JUL

Patton ran out an easy winner of the Ladbrokes Midlands National at Kilbeggan on Friday night.

Niall Madden could afford to ease down close home as the bottom weight came home 13 lengths clear of Larry Boy in the 50,000 contest.

The Noel Meade-trained gelding jumped to the front at the third last and was sent clear after the penultimate fence to put matters beyond doubt.

Meade said his charge was unlikely to run at Galway: 'He probably won't get into the Plate and after that win he would probably have too much weight in the Galway Blazers Chase.'

'Something like the Kerry National could be a long-term target for him.'

There were doubles on the card for Ruby Walsh and Michael Halford with the pair teaming up to score with Dow Jones.

The gelding was sent off 4/11f for his debut over the larger obstacles in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Beginners Chase and duly obliged.

Walsh led throughout on the grey and asked him for an effort two out to see off the challenge of Room To Room Suit by a comfortable seven lengths.

Nassaro (11/4) had earlier initiated the brace for Halford when claiming the ACC Bank Westmeath Handicap Hurdle.

Barry Geraghty left it late on the gelding, getting up close home to collar Clogga Cliche for a length success.

Halford said both his winners would find suitable races at Galway and was pleased with the chasing debut of Dow Jones: 'He had a good experience there and it was a nice start over fences.'

Cunningham's Folly (5/4f) had been the first of Walsh's winners when he quickened up smartly on the run-in to beat Mason's Arch by three-and-a-half lengths in the Tommy Scanlon Bar & Restaurant Handicap Hurdle.

Martin Brassil's charge was following up last month's success at the track: 'We came back to the scene of the crime! The ground was plenty fast enough for him and he may take a couple of weeks to get over that.'

Real Overdrive opened his account in good style when taking the Avon Ri Corporate & Leisure Resort Maiden Hurdle by four lengths from Norborne Bandit.

Shay Barry excelled on the front-running Coin Man in the Tom McCormack Memorial Cup Maiden Hurdle as he recorded an eight length victory.
