Review KILBEGGAN 23rd Jun

Rosaker shrugged off his veteran status to score a debut win over fences in the Carroll Cuisine Premium Ham Beginners Chase at Kilbeggan.

The 11-year-old has a string of Grade Two wins over hurdles to his name and was also placed at the highest level but trainer Noel Meade took the decision to switch codes.

Always jumping and travelling smoothly for Paul Carberry, the rider was checking for dangers on the turn for home and Rosaker just had to be kept up to his work to see off Front Man by three-quarters of a length.

Carberry was completing a double after Kalellshan had broken his duck in the www.kilbegganraces.com Maiden Hurdle.

The 4-6 favourite led from the front and had only Thiazi for company from some way out. The rider didn't have to work too hard to see off that rival and Kalellshan came home with three lengths in hand.

Carberry had to settle for second best in the T & V Novice Hurdle when Rocket Boy couldn't catch Rossgavand (8-1).

The Jarlath Fahey-trained winner took over from front-running market leader By The Brook on touching down over the final flight and kept on stoutly to repel the late thrust of Carberry's mount by a length and a quarter.

Mr Bones made his handicap debut a winning one in the Carroll Cuisine Real Food Handicap Hurdle.

Garrett Cotter was low in the saddle from three out on the 6-1 shot but he responded to his rider's urgings to beat Youngborogal by a length and three-quarters, although he did squeeze up the runner-up close home.

Western Devil produced a sterling effort to lump top-weight to victory in the Mullingar Handicap Hurdle.

Hitting the front entering the home straight in the three-mile contest, the 8-1 chance kept on well to beat Laura's Light by two and a half lengths.
