Review KILLARNEY 16TH SEP

Dermot Weld and Pat Smullen are conquering all before them at present and, following the pair's Irish St Leger success with Vinnie Rose at The Curragh on Saturday, they combined to collect the opening Boylesports Handicap with Turn Of Phrase at Killarney yesterday. According to Weld's representative Paddy 'Whacker' O'Brien, another handicap will now feature on Turn Of Phrase's itinerary.

Tralee handler Tom Cooper was on the mark when Galileo Strike came with a storming late rattle to touch off Dariole in the first division of the Laurels Bar Handicap and the six-year-old will now be seen in action at Listowel next week.

Cooper later went on to complete a brace as local Beaufort publican Michael Galvin's Beaufort Belle landed the second division of the Boylesports Handicap Hurdle with Barry Geraghty.

Robbie Osborne saddled his eighth career winner when Luferton Lane forfeited her maiden tag en route to dismissing Society Friend by one and a half lengths in the second section of this one mile six furlong contest.

It was Pat Shanahan who rode Luferton Lane and he later went on to complete a double courtesy of Irene Oakes' Avoir Du Cran in the Killarney Vitners Handicap. Incidentally, the blinkered Avoir Du Cran also won over flights at Tipperary just four days previously.

Mark Grant was seen to purposefully good effect when capturing the first part of the Boylesports Handicap Hurdle with Legal Crack whilst Ask The Accountant and Paul Carberry took the European Breeeders Fund Mares Maiden Hurdle for the in-form Michael Halford stable.

Three Gents sprang a mild surprise by coming home as he pleased with Tommy Treacy in the closing Niall Brosnan & Co Solicitors Novice Hurdle.
