Review LEOPARDSTOWN 17TH APR

Courageous provided one lucky jackpot punter with a dividend of #16,232 after taking the valuable Roundwood Handicap in comprehensive fashion.

Timmy Houlihan sent the 6yo to the front two furlongs out, and he quickly stretched clear for a comfortable 1 1/2L success from the staying on Chanoud.

'When he's good he's very good', said trainer Jessica Harrington, before adding: 'He would have hated that ground but seems to be best when fresh'.

Freud, favourite for the Sagitta 2,000 Guineas before his debut last year, remains one of the highest rated maidens in training after again tasting defeat.

The Storm Cat colt was very weak in the market (1/2 to 11/10) for the 6f maiden but looked set to score when quickening between horses to lead inside the final furlong.

However Mick Kinane's mount stopped quickly once striking the front, and was headed in the final 50 yards by Turtles Reprisal.

The 20/1 winner (paid 109.30 on the Tote) is trained by Aidan O'Brien's sister-in-law Frances Crowley, and was ridden by his stable apprentice Colm O'Donoghue.

The O'Brien/Kinane team were on the mark later on when El Bueno smoothly landed the odds in the 12f maiden.

Kevin Prendergast added to his double here yesterday when Sita beat Cool Clarity (1/1-7/4f) by 1 1/2L in the fillies maiden, after a protracted duel in the straight.

'She was unlucky when hampered on her only run here last year, and I'll find a Listed race next. She should stay 12f, and must have an ease in the ground', said Prendergast.

John Oxx and John Murtagh opened their account for the season with newcomer Exaltation, a 3/4 brother to Arc winner Suamarez, in the 1m maiden.

'He picked up on the better ground in the straight, and will definitely be stepped up in trip next time', said Oxx's assistant Jimmy O'Neill.

Jim Gorman and owner Maria McKinney gained some compensation for the loss of Mountain Shadows (broke leg) in the opener when Christy Senior took the 10f handicap.

Gordon Power, who enjoyed a successful winter stint in Dubai, produced the 6yo to lead early in the straight for a 1 1/2L verdict over Copernicus.

Promising Lady (Declan McDonogh) led well over a furlong out in the 1m handicap, and kept on well to hold Dame Portia by 1/2L.
