Review LEOPARDSTOWN 12TH JUN

Ger Lyons recorded his first pattern-race success on the level as Akanti (4/1-6/1-5/1) made all to secure the Listed Rochestown Stakes at Leopardstown.

The 10,000 Goffs purchase kept on well to see off Benicio by a length, with well-touted Ballydoyle newcomer Catcher In The Rye (1/1-4/6-4/5f) 1/2 length further back in third.

'It wasn't the plan to come here originally, but I thought he deserved to at least take his chance. We've had a few placed at this level before, and it's marvellous to get the win,' said the delighted trainer.

Aidan O'Brien, who was not at the meeting, had an otherwise good evening, debutant Hold That Tiger and Della Francesca giving him a near 6/1 double.

The latter showed plenty of determination when gathering in market rival Jammaal in the closing stages of the featured Group 3 Gallinule Stakes, and could now take his chance in the Irish Derby.

Earlier Hold That Tiger, odds-on with most firms in the morning, touched 7/4 before producing an impressive turn of foot to claim the opening 6f 2yo maiden going away.

The Storm Cat colt, a half-brother to Belmont Stakes winner Editor's Note, was eventually returned at 6/4 after drifting out from an opening show of 1/1.

Rum Charger got first run on last week's course winner One Won One and had enough in reserve to hold her older rival's customary late burst in the Group 3 Ballycorus Stakes.

'That was deserved, as she's been very consistent,' said Dermot Weld. '7f seems her optimum trip, and she's entitled to a little break now,' continued the handler, whose Royal Ascot team will be spearheaded by Vinnie Roe.

Sandord Park arrived fast and late for a narrow victory in the 7f handicap under Mick Hussey, coming through between Canaima and Grianan Realta for a 3/4 length verdict.

Cera Sifayra, who disappointed at Gowran Park last week, bounced back to form with a last-gasp triumph in the 1m apprentice handicap.

5/1 shot Cailin's Perk raced clear inside the final furlong for a comfortable three-length defeat of warm favourite Beyond The Polein the concluding 1m6f QR race.
