Review LIMERICK 14TH MAY

Oodachee looks to have a bright future over fences after beating a decent field to land the Hugh McMahon Memorial Chase at Limerick on only his second start over the larger obstacles.

Davy Russell travelled well throughout on the Charlie Swan-trained gelding, in the Grade Three contest, and a mistake two out couldn't halt his progress.

The seven-year-old hit the front after the last and kept on well to score by a length from Slim Pickings.

Ruby Walsh and Willie Mullins teamed up to record a quick-fire double with Baltimore Hill and Connaught Hall at the Patrickswell venue.

Baltimore Hill made all in the www.limerickraces.ie Hurdle but was hard ridden in the closing stages to hold Artiste Bay by three-parts-of-a-length.

Walsh had an easier time on 1/2f Connaught Hall in the Meteor Mobile Mares Maiden Hurdle, however, when she also led throughout for a comfortable five-and-a-half length victory over Glorious Moments.

Walsh looked set to record a treble when Poker Pal led into the last in the Kilmallock Handicap Chase.

But a bad mistake ended his chances and Sparkle Wood completed a double for Paddy Flood when coming home three lengths in front of Collinstown.

Flood had initiated the brace when taking over from Barry Geraghty on Kasnani in the opening Martinstown Maiden Hurdle. Geraghty missed the meeting with a thumb injury.

Flood had to be at his strongest on the Paul Nolan-trained gelding to get him home by a length-and-a-half from Royal Rhythm.

The stewards enquired into the running of 12th-placed finisher Schindlers Son and decided that trainerTony Martin had used the racecourse as a schooling ground.

Martin was fined e2,000 while jockey Simon Craig was banned for 21 days. The horse was also banned for 60 days.

Gleann An Sagart ran out a game winner of the Kevin McManus Bookmaker Champion Bumper for Dusty Sheehy and Kevin Power.

Phelans Fancy claimed the concluding Patrickswell Hunters Chase in good style for Mikey O'Connor.
