Review LISTOWEL 5TH JUN

Ruby Walsh was the star of the show at Listowel on Monday as he partnered a treble at the Co Kerry track.

Tony Martin provided two of the winners as the pair teamed up to claim both divisions of the Rover Handicap Hurdle.

After Midnight (2/1f) left his previous hurdles form well behind when travelling sweetly into the lead two out in the first division and going on to beat Home Force by two lengths.

The winner is owned by the Where's Paddy Syndicate which includes former Kerry boss Paidi O'Se.

The bookies were taking no chances in the second division with Top The Charts (11/10f) and they were proved right as the gelding cruised into the lead at the penultimate flight to record an easy six-length success over Oyez.

Martin put the duo's improvement in form down to the ground: 'The two of them were a bit weak and improved a lot for the better going - they were finding it tough on heavy ground.'

Walsh completed the quick treble when Chicago Vic ran out an easy nine-length winner of the John Joseph Burke Memorial Hurdle.

The Eric McNamara-trained mare hit the front before the second last and pulled clear in the closing stages to beat Hardwick.

'She lost her way a bit over fences. I thought beforehand that if there was an extra two furlongs there would be no way she could get beaten - so I told Ruby to make plenty of use of her,' said McNamara.

Who'd Of Guest proved a fortunate winner of the opening Island Maiden Hurdle with German import Assiun falling at the last when appearing to have the race under wraps.

It was a similar story in the John J Galvin Handicap Hurdle with Yarra Maguire unseating Slippers Madden two out when in control, allowing Zamnah to come through to grab victory.

Il En Reve made all for a gutsy success in the Listowel Vintners Handicap Chase while Dego Dante repeated those tactics to claim the Gurtinard Beginners Chase.
