Review LISTOWEL 23RD SEP

Paul Carberry was seen at his confident best as Some Timbering cruised to victory in the Guinness Brewhouse Series Novice Chase at Listowel.

The race developed into a match between Anno Jubilo and Some Timbering after Dontbebrushedaside crashed out at the fourth last.

Carberry oozed confidence on his mount swinging for home and only needed to shake him up briefly before the last to get the better of Anno Jubilo by four lengths.

'He loves soft ground and may be better suited going left handed. I thought he would win to be honest. He'll go for another novice now,' said winning trainer Dusty Sheehy.

Derrykeel overcame doubts about the ground to run out a game winner of the Edmond Whelan Memorial Handicap Hurdle.

The Francis Crowley-trained gelding travelled sweetly before leading five out. Ponmeoath threw down a late challenge in the straight but failed by two-and-a-half lengths to peg back the winner.

'He hates bad ground and is much better on good ground,' revealed owner Michael Hanrahan. 'We hadn't intended running but decided to yesterday morning. He might go to (the Open meeting at) Cheltenham.'

Danny Grant picked up a winning spare when partnering Lough Gem to a length-and-a-quarter success in the Listowel Printing Works Handicap.

Seamus O'Donnell's charge stepped up on recent efforts to storm home in the final furlong and get the better of Grisham.

'He had blinkers on the last day and Seamus (Heffernan) said to take them off and run him again on Saturday. He pulls himself up in front. He'll go to the sales now,' said O'Donnell.

Storm Averted, who ran a cracker to finish second in a maiden on Thursday, turned out again to good effect in the Charlie Chute Memorial Handicap.

Niall Nevin's charge hit the front early in the straight and kept on well, under Willie Supple, to score by a length-and-a-half.

'The handicapper put him up 14lb for the other day so he had to run here today - he won't see a mark of 60 again!' said Nevin.

Fran Berry excelled on Rockie in the Banna Beach Hotel & Leisure Centre Handicap delivering him with a late surge to collar Phoenix Factor close home.

'Fran gave him a great ride - landed him on the line. He's a horse with loads of ability but doesn't always show all he has,' said trainer Tom Hogan.

In foal mare The Wrens Nest boosted her paddock value when opening her account in the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Hurdle.

Andrew Lynch produced the mare to lead at the last and score by a length-and-a-half. Trainer John Berry revealed that it would probably be her last visit to the racecourse.

Declan McDonogh partnered his seventh winner of the week when Tawaafur kicked on before the straight to land the opening Lynch's Bakery Fillies Maiden.
