Review NAAS 17TH MAY

Galatee stamped herself as a leading contender for the Irish Oaks when maintaining her unbeaten record with an impressive performance in the Blue Wind Stakes at Naas.

The daughter of Galileo proved the highlight of a treble for Jim Bolger and Kevin Manning when putting some decent older rivals firmly in their place in the Group 3 contest.

Manning sent her to the front entering the straight and she soon mastered long-time leader Allexina, pulling away at the two furlong pole for a three-and-a-half length victory.

'She is much better on the track than at home - she doesn't overexert herself,' said Bolger afterwards.

The duo had struck in the opener when Gaudeamus made a highly promising debut in the Whitewater Fillies Maiden.

The daughter of Distorted Humor took time to find her feet but once the penny dropped she flew home under Manning to lead close home and beat Gee Kel by a length.

The treble was completed in the concluding Irish Stallion Farms EBF Maiden when Hovering also made a winning start to her career.

The filly hit the front inside the final furlong, despite running green, but had to cling on in the closing stages to deny the late surge of Shehira by the narrowest of margins.

Emerald Hill looked a smart juvenile when landing the Pat Dunlea Memorial Race for Mick Halford.

The Piccolo colt received a hefty bump at half-way but was unperturbed. Johnny Murtagh produced his mount a furlong out and he battled well to score by half-a-length from Noble City.

Two Ballydoyle colts dominated the Curragh Lawns Nursing Home Maiden but it was the outsider of the two, Talenti, who made all under Colm O'Donoghue to beat stable-mate Magicalmysterytour.

Lady Orpen weaved her way through the field to collar Mist And Stone close home in the Berney Bros. Saddlers Handicap while Dame Noir emerged on top from a protracted duel with Breaker Morant in the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap.
