Review naas 22nd Jun

Sapphire appreciated a drop in class when making every yard to win the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Race at Naas.

A close-up fifth to subsequent Ribblesdale heroine Banimpire in a Listed race at Gowran last month, Dermot Weld's filly was sent straight to the front by Pat Smullen, who enjoyed a treble on the card, and didn't see another rival.

Her stride started to shorten slightly in the final stages of the ten-furlong contest, but John Oxx's Haziyna, second throughout, could not sufficiently bridge the gap and was a length and a half in arrears as the Moyglare Stud Farm-owned Sapphire crossed the line.

Allegra Tak easily landed the Siteservplc Supporting Aware Handicap, providing Smullen with his first win on the night.

There was a considerable on-course gamble for Naked Cowboy - ultimately sent off the 5-2 favourite - but Anthony Mullins' runner had to settle for a three-length second as the Harry Rogers-trained winner coasted home at 8-1.

Smullen's hat-trick was complete when he guided Joanna Morgan's Ted Dolly to victory in the Goffs Country Supporting Aware Handicap.

Paul Deegan's Expire made every post a winning one in the Royal Sun Alliance Supporting Aware Maiden.

The relatively exposed three-year-old was sent off the 7-4 favourite as he aimed to make it thirteenth time lucky under Willie Supple, and his loyal followers were rewarded in no uncertain terms as he bounded four and a half lengths clear of Red Army Blues.

Ger Lyons' Pitlochry, ridden by Keagan Latham, snatched victory from Catamount in the dying strides of the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Auction Maiden.

The latter took it up around three furlongs from the finish and seemed to have the race in safe keeping.

But the favourite began to show his inexperience in the closing stages and fellow newcomer Pitlochry (16-1) stayed on strongly to record what had looked an unlikely head success.
