Review NAAS 28TH JUN

Bookmakers were never going to have it easy early on this programme, with three apparently strong favourites and so things proved.

All-the-way scorer, Cheyenne Star (evens) for Frances Crowley and Pat Smullen quickened up best over the final quarter mile to land the three-runner opener.

Similarly Gee Kel (4/5 to 8/15) had her race won from the two furlong pole as she comprehensively beat Well Heeled Lady by 4L in the fillies maiden.

Only five competed here and it presented a nice opportunity for Willie Supple's mount to win at the fourth attempt. It was a first victory of the campaign for Frank Ennis.

Free Roses was always going to be very difficult to beat in what looked an ordinary 3yo+ maiden and she certainly didn't disappoint her backers.

Her large field of opponents had no answer to the Lady O'Reilly/Eddie Lynam/Fran Berry front-runner from soon after halfway as the 4/7 shot coasted home by 8L.

Tralee owner, James O'Shea has had his familiar silks carried to success on three occasions already this term, most notably by the dual-winning long term SunAlliance Hurdle prospect, Catch Me.

He has another useful horse in the shape of the Thomond O'Mara-trained juvenile, Streetofchampions. This fellow took the auction maiden on his debut under Wayne Lordan.

A first crop son of Street Cry (2002 Dubai World Cup hero), the 20/1 chance led under two furlongs out and kept on well under pressure to beat Dimenticata by 1 1/2L.

O'Shea and O'Mara also had a runner-up on the evening, Famous Seamus failing by 2L to the gambled-on, h'cap first-timer, blinkered first-time, Great Hope.

Tens in the morning and 5/1 into 7/2 on course, David Moran led two furlongs out on Jim Bolger's daughter of Halling and the bottom-weight went clear inside the final furlong.

Peter Casey enjoyed his first group winner with Sina Cova at Cork this month and Basil Brindley's colours got another successful airing in the sprint h'cap with Ireland's Call.

Son of the trainer, 7Ib claimer Oliver got this 20/1 grey up near the finish to short-head market-leader, Acorn Lodge.

Medico's defection from the concluding event left easy pickings for Royal Intrigue and he duly did enough to justify odds of 1/2 to complete a double for Pat Smullen.
