Review NAVAN 12TH JUL

Jockey Garrett Cotter was the star of a show as the two-day Navan meeting concluded in very testing conditions, notching up a fantastic treble aboard Victor Sherlock, Fair And Lively and Goodonyou-Polly.

The first-named set the ball rolling when making every post a winning one in Div. 1 of the Meath Chronicle Supporting Navan Mental Health Maiden hurdle, staying on resolutely up the hill to score by 10 lengths.

'This is a good horse - he once beat Trucker's Tavern in a point-to-point, and that's only his second run since I got him,' said trainer Stephen Mahon of the seven year-old.

'He ran well at Bellewstown last week, and the only problem I've had is getting his head right,' he continued.

Cotter promptly made it two when Fair And Lively just held the renewed effort of fellow outsider Mulligan Fool in a driving finish to the second division of the same event.

The rider went on to complete what was his first ever treble, at odds of 1027/1, when getting Goodonyou-Polly home by a length from Slush Fund in a stamina-sapping 2m4f handicap hurdle.

Earlier, Dutsdale Dancer (3/1-9/4f) got punters off to the perfect start when collaring long-time long-time leader Mivec just after the 2f pole for a comfortable triumph in the opening 1m6f handicap.
