Review NAVAN 26TH NOV

Cane Brake ran out a cosy winner of the Troytown Handicap Chase at Navan on Sunday.

Barry Geraghty's mount struck for home three out in the 100,000 event and soon went clear of his field.

Kerryhead Windfarm stayed on late but could only get within four lengths of Tom Taaffe's charge.

'I have to thank David Wachman. He told me last summer to take this fellow and train him. The change of scenery can do them good and it's worked with this fellow,' said Taaffe.

Well-backed favourite Southern Vic (13/8f) faded in the straight to finish fifth.

Geraghty was completing a double, having partnered Lounaos (9/10f) to a winning debut over hurdles in the opening Newgrange Hotel 3-Y-O Maiden Hurdle.

Eoin Griffin's charge had to work for her success. The filly moved sweetly into the lead at the third last but Geraghty had to get serious before the last to score by three lengths from Sophist.

'I haven't been nervous in a while about a race but I was nervous today. The ground was a bit heavier than she would want and also it being her first time over hurdles,' said Griffin.

'We'll aim her at the Durkan (New Homes Juvenile Hurdle) at Christmas. She'll also get a entry for the grade 3 at Fairyhouse next Saturday and we'll see how she comes out of this race.'

William Hill and Sean Graham both gave the filly a 20/1 quote for the Triumph Hurdle while Boylesports were more impressed and went 14/1.

The Barry & Sandra Kelly Novice Hurdle at the track in three weeks times is shaping up to be a fascinating contest with both Footy Facts and Aran Concerto nominated as possibles following their victories.

Noel Meade was again fulsome in his praise for Aran Concerto after the gelding secured an effortless victory in the INH Stallion Owners EBF Maiden Hurdle.

Paul Carberry let the 4/11f cruise into the lead three out and he never had to move as his mount cantered to a 14-length verdict over The Very Man.

'He's an exceptional horse. He has done things I haven't seen a horse do,' said Meade. 'For a horse of his size he has the speed of a Flat horse and will go three miles.'

'We schooled him over eight hurdles the other morning and he missed four. We jumped six fences with him and he was brilliant. Hurdles are just too small for him.'

Footy Facts (1/2f) asserted after the last to score in good style in the Bank Of Ireland 'Monksfield' Novice Hurdle.

Robert Tyner's charge turned into the straight upsides Casey Jones and Ruby Walsh had to ask his mount to shake off that rival, pulling clear on the run-in to score by nine lengths.

View Mount Prince came from last to first to claim the Ebony Ladies Trim Handicap Hurdle while Eurochancer produced a game front-running performance to score in the beginners chase.
