Review D`ANJOU AND INSENOR GIVE SHORT PRICED DOUBLE - ROSCOMMON 8TH AUG

John Oxx and John Murtagh completed a short-priced double with D`Anjou and Insenor at the mid-western venue.

D`Anjou (4/9-1/3f) gave odds-on punters a few worries before being driven to the front at the furlong pole to beat Elbeo`s Dream by 1 1/2L in the 7f maiden.

`He has not done as well as we had expected earlier this year, and is better going left-handed,` said trainer John Oxx, who will find a handicap for the colt.

Murtagh moved onto the 40 winner mark for the season when Insenor (4/9-1/3f) also justified good support in the 10f maiden.

The daughter of El Gran Senor was patiently ridden to lead inside the final furlong for a 2L victory over Alexander Eliott.

Goldenhalo survived a stewards enquiry after beating Castleshane (11/10f) in the opening 3yo hurdle of the season.

Barry Geraghty`s mount jumped left throughout, and collided with the favourite at the final flight.

Castleshane was soon in front despite the bump but Goldenhalo battled back in the closing stages to prevail by 3/4L.

The stewards found that interference had taken place but that the winner did not improve his placing.

`He could have done with a lead as the pace was slow, and I would say it was just greenness that made him jump left,` said Geraghty afterwards.

Clanlucky turned the 3m handicap hurdle into a procession, stretching clear in the straight for Paul Carberry for an effortless 4L win over See More Perks.

`The faster the ground the better, and he was able to dominate unlike at Galway last week,` said winning trainer Noel Meade.

Freya provided her owner Geraldine Reilly with an early wedding present when swooping late on the stands side under Danny Grant to land the 7f handicap.

Ms Reilly will marry Padraig Maloney in Cavan on Saturday, and her fiancee said: `Freya was bought for just 800gns out of Alec Stewart`s yard last year.`

There was a terrific finish to the 12f handicap, with Consalvo (Kevin Manning) getting up on the stands side to score bya head from Dragon Century and Pilgrim Star who dead-heated for second.

Wemyss Quest (2/1-3/1jf) led 1/4m out under Brian Hamilton to beat Peggy Murtagh by 3 1/2L in the bumper.

An enquiry was called into possible interference a furlong out after the winner edged right onto the rail but the placings remained unaltered.
