Review TRALEE 4TH OCT

Pat Collins posted the third winner of his fledgling career when Swiss Hall battled gamely to land the Oakview Village Development (QR) Handicap Hurdle at Tralee.

The 18-year-old kept his mount going strongly in the closing stages to get home by a length-and-three-quarters from Another Barrell.

Winning trainer John Kiely revealed afterwards that Collins' father Matt had also ridden a winner for the stable back in the 1980s.

Promising amateur Robbie McNamara was seen to good effect on Cosmic String in the opening Vale Of Tralee Maiden Hurdle.

The Dermot Weld-trained gelding was produced to challenge two out and soon led. McNamara sent his mount clear to record a cosy five-and-a-half length victory over Hollywood Law.

Brian Byrnes also excelled when getting tricky customer Low Expectations up in division one of the Kingdom Handicap Hurdle.

The gelding was reluctant to jump off but worked his way through the field to lead at the last and get the better of Genger by a length-and-a-quarter.

'He has plenty of ability but is a very quirky horse,' said winning trainer Eric McNamara. 'I sent a lad to the start to lead him round as he is likely to cock his jaw and not jump off.'

Ruby Walsh delivered After Midnight with a perfectly timed run in the second division to wear down long-time leader Premier Hero on the run-in.

Moore's Law turned the Welcome To Tralee Hurdle into a procession when drawing clear three out for an easy 16-length victory.

Clochmhaoil Castle was also an impressive winner when making his chasing debut in the www.traleehorseracing.com Beginners Chase.

John Cullen made all on the gelding and stretched clear four out for a very easy victory.

'He was quite lowly rated over hurdles but looks like he is going to be a better horse over fences,' said trainer Paul Nolan.

'He's a ten-year-old and has broken down twice. I'm delighted that he handled that ground and hopefully he'll keep on the go over the winter.'

Mountain Rose sprang a 20/1 shock when landing the Ballybeggan Handicap Chase while Off The Mark gained a deserved win in the concluding bumper.
