Review TRAMORE 1ST JAN

Cloudy Bays gained a deserved victory when making all in an incident packed Wilf Dooly Chase at Tramore yesterday.

Charles Byrnes' gelding came under pressure after the fourth last in the Listed contest but responded well for Andrew McNamara and had the measure of Over The First when that rival fell at the second last. Satco Express was left a distant second.

The race had lost another principal when Nil Desperandum slipped up on the bend before the second last fence. Francis Crowley's charge looked held in third at the time.

McNamara recorded a quick double when Tobeornotobe secured her first win over fences at the 23rd attempt in the Kent Bros Beginners Chase.

The mare ended a frustrating run when moving smootly into the lead before the turn for home and going on to beat Beau Colina by a comfortable 13-lengths.

Brian Byrnes was rewarded for an enterprising ride on Beat The Drums when the gelding kept on to beat Arc En Ciel by nine lengths after building up a wide-margin lead early on in the James F Wallace Chartered Accountants & Business Consultants Maiden Hurdle.

Front-running tactics again paid off in the Tom Carroll Memorial Handicap Chase when Wise Counsel scored from the in-form Tom Taaffe yard.

Bagnalls Pub also done it from the front in the Waterford & Tramore Racecourse Maiden Hurdle while Culrua Mist was a good winner of the opening David Flynn Construction Novice Handicap Hurdle.
