Review WEXFORD 16-JUN-2000

Noel Meade and Paul Carberry combined to complete a 7-1 double at Wexford last evening sparked off with English import Fnan, who notched up his third win over hurdles in very cheeky fashion in the Hilary Murphy Travel Novice Hurdle.

Carberry oozed confidence throughout the two-and-a-half mile journey on the former John Dunlop flat campaigner before he forged to the front rounding the home turn to defeat Hardiman with consummate ease.

'He put his shoulder out slightly at Fairyhouse last time and an American chiropractor Joanny Vacrum, who is based in England, put it back and it's made some difference to him,' said Meade, who followed up later in the handicap chase when Luna Fleur recorded her third win at the track and justified favouritism in the process.

'She's better going right-handed and she seems to have found a new lease of life being held up as we used to make the running with her, ' said the winning trainer after the second leg of his brace

Cork trainer Ivor Kingston, who has been training under permit for three years, saddled his first winner when 20-1 chance Tworow and Barry Geraghty finished fast to land the 2nd division of the maiden hurdle while local rider John Cullen (23) recorded his first win in the saddle since turning pro when scoring on Paul Cullen's An Seabhac (20/1) in the 2m2f handicap hurdle.

The one mile five furlong handicap produced a thrilling finish with top-weight Moscow Express and Near Dunleer flashing past the post in a line. Judge Paddy Graffin deliberated for some eleven minutes before giving the verdict to Michael Hourigan's 8-1 chance Near Dunleer and Stephen Craine.
