Review WEXFORD 26TH NOV

Davy Russell has established himself as one of Ireland's leading jockeys and the former dual champion point to point rider recorded a double at Wexford yesterday, partnering Crooked Throw to win the opening maiden hurdle and Whizbang to win the 2m4f maiden hurdle.

Crooked Throw, who made all for his 2 1/2l win, is owned by the Hogan Wood Whelan Syndicate comprising former Ireland rugby greats Keith Wood and Pa Whelan as well as car dealer Frank Hogan, and is trained by another sporting legend, Charlie Swan.

Swan later mentioned 'I'm delighted for the lads he won but he wouldn't want the ground too deep. We'll go for a winners of one hurdle next.'

Trainer Edward O'Grady and owner JP McManus provided Russell with his second winner when Whizbang ran out an easy 11l winner of the INH Stallion Owners EBF Maiden Hurdle.

O'Grady and McManus were absent although McManus' racing manager Frank Berry did report 'he jumped well and did it nicely. The Punchestown run seems to have brought him on a bit and he'll go for a winners' race somewhere now.'

Brave Inca's trainer Colm Murphy saddled Allez Petit Luis to win the Bree Handicap Hurdle. Alan Donoghue's mount was in third when blundering at the final flight but battled well to deny front running Macs-Bet by a short head, on the line.

Murphy later commented 'he's a nice horse and seems to be going the right way. He didn't stay the last day and seems better over two miles.'

Murphy also reported Brave Inca in 'excellent form' ahead of his Hattons Grace Hurdle bid at Fairyhouse on Sunday but did say that he expects 'further improvement from him after the run'.

Ruby Walsh is difficult to keep out of any winner's enclosure and he rode his second Irish winner in two days when Livingstonebramble landed the Dunbrody Beginners' Chase for Willie Mullins.

Mullins later commented 'Livingstonebramble has had his training problems but he will be kept going now and he will probably go for a handicap.'

John Carr's Killeaney won the Ferns Novice Handicap Hurdle under Philip Carberry while Peter McCreevy's giant sized Alberoni landed the Martinstown Opportunity Handicap Chase under Mark Walsh.

The concluding bumper went to the unstoppable Noel Meade-Niall Madden pair with newcomer Derravarra Eagle.
