Review WEXFORD 14TH JUL

For Aidan O'Brien to have a runner at his home track Wexford these days is a rarity but those punters who availed of the generous even money available about Saddler's Creek before the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Maiden on saturday were duly rewarded when the Sadler's Wells colt recorded a pillar to post success under Colm O'Donoghue.

'He travelled real easy and picked up well in the straight,' reported O'Donoghue, who edged one clear of Tadgh O'Shea in the apprentice title race after his 14th success of the current campaign aboard the Sue Magnier/Michael Tabor-owned colt.

Pat Hughes nominated the Guinness Galway Hurdle for Sharpaten after the 9/2 chance got a dream run through on the rail rounding the home turn to land the Mount Leinster Handicap under Philip Carberry. 'I have six runners entered in the Galway Hurdle and all bar Gift Token are in the handicap proper including this fellow. Hopefully that is where he'll go,' Hughes said.

Nineteen-year-old Victoria Hughes from Kildare town, who is apprentice to Kevin Prendergast, recorded her first success in the plate when teaming up with Cool Hand Luke, one of three Luke Comer runners in the 0-50 1m5f handicap.
