The Waterford & Tramore Racecourse Directors (Q.R.) Maiden Hurdle looked a pretty winnable contest beforehand and it was Miley Shah (first track winner for his handler John Kenny) that took a step forward to land a bit of a 'touch' in the two mile five furlong contest.

Available at 20/1 this morning, the victorious City Honours gelding was returned at 8s and he was always prominent though keen. He led from the eighth and asserted approaching the last to beat A New Day by three and a half lengths.

Based near Tullow in County Carlow but operating in County Wicklow John Kenny said: "He went down to the first the last day and butted it and that was the end of that.

"We put cheek-pieces on him today, upped him in trip, we let the young fella out of the yard ride him and it's all helped to do the trick.

"I hope the handicapper won't be too hard on him. We'll probably up him in trip again and put him in a handicap.

"I've had two point-to-point winners and I've had my licence three years. We have four horses for the track for the winter.

“My father, Simon Joe owns the horse and he has had horses with Irene Oakes and others in the past."

Meanwhile the winning rider is James Walsh (21) from Tinahely. It was his first winner on the track too having racked up seven point-to-point winners. (DM & EM)
