Davy Russell moved 13 winners clear of Ruby Walsh in his quest for the Irish jump jockeys title when scoring on Molly's Boy in the two and a half mile handicap chase at Navan.

The 20-runner race was decimated with non-runners due to the softening ground as six were pulled out, leaving 14 to go to post.

More money went the way of punters as Molly's Boy was taken at 8/1 in the morning and went off 3/1 favourite.

Russell delivered the Edward Cawley-trained 11-year-old at the last and the pair held off Good Luck Chuck (16/1) who stayed on stoutly up the hill but was still a length in arrears at the finishing post. Scavenger Lad who led two out, came in third at 13/2 in front of Puddencullinan who cut out the pace.

“We had the right man on him to hang on to him for a while,” Edward Cawley claimed.

“He might win another one along the line. He's no superstar but it's nice to win one. He's owned by a group of local lads to me including a lad that works in the yard.

“He'll probably go to Fairyhouse for a two mile five furlong novice handicap there and hopefully the handicapper isn't too severe on him.”
