Second in the 2.15 with Venitien De Mai Jim Dreaper struck in the Kilsheelan Beginners Chase courtesy of the Barry Cash ridden 11/8 favourite Mr Cosmopolitan at Clonmel.

When the powerfully built Mr Cosmopolitan is good at a fence, he's very good, but two out wasn't one of those times and he met that penultimate wrong, to hand the initiative to Davy Russell's mount, Deano

However Cash conjured a fluent leap, from last November's Longford point-to-point winner, at the last.

The eight-year-old then stayed on best close home to trump the aforementioned Deano by three parts of a length.

"He is consistently inconsistent if you know what I mean and it's disappointing he can't get his jumping right," acknowledged Dreaper.

"Going around here on the inside track wasn't ideal, but with the conditions we had to come, and if you wrote away for a race you wouldn't have found a better one.

"He'll go for handicaps now, and our Thomas (Dreaper, son and assistant trainer) is the guru at finding these type of races-or so he'll tell you!" (TW & EM)
