The two mile seven maiden hurdle looked a two horse race between Westerner Lady and Ultimate Horseman and so it proved as the former proved too strong by half a length.

Ultimate Horseman tracked Westerner Lady (5/4) on the run to the last but his jockey Jack Kennedy was working hard on him while Paul Townend still appeared to have plenty of horse under him.

Westerner Lady kept the gallop up and finished her race well to repel Ultimate Horseman, the even money favourite.

Patrick Mullins said: "Paul was very good again as she didn't settle early. It is fantastic to have his services when Ruby is away. She's not over big but she jumped brilliantly.

"She wants good ground. We might try and get a mares' novice with her before the ground goes. She'll get further.

"Her owner (Anthony Butler) is from Carlow and has had lots of patience with her."

This was gave trainer Willie Mullins and Townend a double on the card as Childrens List landed race two.
