Mullins father & son land feature at Galway

The father and son duo of Tony and Danny Mullins landed the feature race on day two of the Galway Festival - the Tote Galway Mile EBF Premier Handicap - as 6/1 joint favourite Rock And Roll Kid came home in front for owner Barry Connell.

Danny Mullins has a tremendous record in Galway having ridden a treble here last year, and already has two winner’s at this year’s meeting. The 17-year-old soon got the gelding into a prominent position from an unfavourable wide draw, and struck the front entering the straight.

The son of Danehill Dancer kept on strongly under pressure to beat Maundy Money by two lengths, with the well-backed Bobs Pride (14/1-9/1) just a shorthead away in third.

“That was worth waiting for," said a delighted Tony Mullins before adding, "We originally trained him for the Lincoln thinking we would get soft ground but little did we know that the ground would remain soft ever since!”

“To win a feature race at Galway is very special and for the owner to breed it and my son to ride it, I’d have to say it’s the best feeling of my life.”

Winning owner Connell who rides out the Danehill Dancer gelding three times a week stated, “We’ve hit the bar a couple of times this year but we really thought conditions were in our favour today.”

The other 6/1 joint favourite Miranda’s Girl from the Tom Cleary stable finished ninth.
