Navy List emerged on top after a bunch finish to the Derrinstown Stud Apprentice Handicap at Dundalk.
3/1 favourite Leaves You Baby (from 4/1) looked set for victory after hitting the front inside the final furlong but was swamped in the closing stages.
Navy List (12/1) found another gear to get his head in front close home and record a head success under Sam James. Blue Ridge Lane finished well on the outside to claim second, just a head in front of Leaves You Baby. Avanti Albert also flew home in fourth, a further neck back.
"I thought the winner had gone but once my fellow got daylight he ran on," said James.
"(Trainer) Andrew Oliver told me that his form was better than his results and that he thought he would like it here."
Mark Monaghan on board Leaves You Baby received a one day ban for 'careless riding' involving an incident early in the straight with Benefit Of Porter.
