New Phase scores Fairyhouse win for Welds

Dermot Weld ended an uncharacteristically winner-less spell over Easter when his New Phase owned by the trainer's son Kris Weld, landed the opening Ballyhack Maiden Hurdle in style at Fairyhouse today.

Ridden by Robbie McNamara, who has just four winners left to lose his valuable 3lbs claiming allowance, the son of Spectrum tracked the leaders before moving through to lead after the second last flight, staying on strongly for an easy nine lengths success over No Pasa Nada

Weld himself was absent but Kris Weld did report "New Phase couldn't have done it any easier today and we'll try to find something at the Punchestown Festival now."

He added "it is nice to get a winner for the yard as we had three seconds but no winners over the Easter period!"
