Jamie Codd and Liz Doyle teamed up to take the bumper at Fairyhouse with newcomer Golan Lodge

However those who supported 6/4 favourite An Dearg Mor (touched 1.04 in running on Betfair) must have been counting their winnings as Patrick Mullins oozed confidence when cruising to the front over a furlong out.

Meanwhile Codd was switching the Liz Doyle-trained gelding left to challenge on the stands’ side, and a strong drive got him to the front over 100 yards out.

Mullins rousted up the ‘jolly’ but was unable to rally sufficiently going down by half a length as the pair stretched 12 lengths clear of Dramatic Event in third.

Doyle said, “I've only had him about eight or nine weeks. He was in pre-training before and I was told he was a good horse.

“He beat a nice horse of Paul Nolan's in a schooling race and he went and won his maiden hurdle very well so I knew he'd go close.

“Jamie gave him a beautiful ride. He rode him like the best horse in the race and he went away and won like the best horse.”
