The Conor O’Dwyer trained Competitive Edge justified 6/5 favouritism to win the Festival Party Pack From €19 Maiden Hurdle at Punchestown today, scoring under Mark Walsh.

The son of Presenting, ‘in the money’ on each of his four completed starts, made good use of a 9lbs weight allowance from runner-up Double Double (who has been in the unfortunate position to pass the past second on his last four starts) to record a three lengths win.

Afterwards O’Dwyer said “I’m delighted! He disappointed the last day at Leopardstown, not even where he finished, but how he travelled during the race - it wasn’t like him.

“Maybe he was a bit off the boil but it’s nice to get the win out of the way. The weight allowance was a big help and we’ll go handicapping and see how he goes. He’s still a big baby and is a nice one to look forward to.”
