Obviously well named

Peter Fahey’s Obviously at 6/1 foiled favourite backers when hitting the front ahead of 2/1 favourite Eagle Canyon in the closing 17-runner seven furlong maiden at Cork.

Ronan Whelan sent the three-year-old gelding past Joseph O’Brien's mount in the final furlong to score by one length.

The favourite was backed in from 5/2 and Fred Fenster was supported from 7/2 to 11/4 in finishing third, half a length back.

Peter Fahey said: “We fancied him the first day but he messed in the stalls [sixth at Gowran Park].

“We always thought he was very very good at home.

“He seems to be a proper horse. We’ve schooled him over hurdles but have no immediate plans.”
