The Shay Barry trained On His Toes landed a late gamble in the concluding Waterford & Tramore Ladies Bumper at Tramore today, winning well under jockey Laura Hourigan.

Hourigan, in her 18th year race-riding but still head-scratchingly claiming 5lbs, produced the son of Presenting to lead under two furlongs out and in the end eased down On his Toes close home, for a three parts of a length win over Ok Splendid

The winner was backed from 11/1 on track in to 6/1 at the off, and after the race Barry stated “I'm delighted with him. He had a grand run on his first run back, and then I shouldn't have ran him at Listowel as the ground was heavy there, and he is a Presenting so he loves a bit of nice ground.

"I walked the track yesterday morning at 7am and I said if we don't get rain tonight we'd run him. He is a grand little horse and he is a full-brother to plenty of winners. We might put him away now with the winter ground coming as ground is a big key to him.”

Barry, who lost his Kalanisi King in an earlier race, added “his owners Joe and Hannah Lee also bred him and Laura (Hourigan) is a good strong rider and is riding great."
