Oscar too strong for Vincent

There was an extraordinary conclusion to the Golf Membership At Gowran Park 2011 Maiden Hurdle as 2/1 favourite Sir Vincent turned certain victory into defeat, Cool Oscar getting up to prevail by a head at Gowran.

Ruby Walsh travelled supremely on Sir Vincent to lead from two out and the contest was as good as over when the Norwich seven-year-old threw another good leap at the last. However the Willie Mullins trained market-leader found little when asked to confirm his win on the run-in and he was ultimately run out of it close home by the Paddy Kennedy partnered Cool Oscar.

Winning trainer Paddy Hogan said: "This horse needed time and he is a very honest horse – he is a gentleman to train. I train in Templemore beside Bill Harney and I have just the two in. I have some young stock too.

"My wife Winifred is very sick at the moment. It was great that she was here to lead this fellow in.

"An uncle of mine trained horses, he was Pat Hogan and he trained in Toomevara."
