Paddy delights favourite backers

My Boy Paddy paid a handsome compliment to his Gowran conqueror First Lieutenant (beat him easily that day by seven lengths) by justifying favouritism in great style, by eleven lengths in the Pegus Horse Feed Point-to-Point Series Final Flat Race.

Mikey Fogarty held his mount up before making smooth progress on the outer from before the straight, and once asked for his effort outside the quarter mile pole, the chestnut son of Accordion soon strode clear.

Winning trainer, Denis Ahern, who trains the six-year-old for his father, Cornelius, said: "Derek (O'Connor) said he was a real track horse when he won a point-to-point on him. He just ran into a special horse in Gowran the last day. Mickey said there that he'd be good enough to win a winners bumper.

"We're point-to-point people though so if anyone wants to buy him he is for sale."
