Palm too strong for rivals

Donnas Palm justified his short-price in fine style in the Ryan's Cleaning Events Specialists Hurdle at Punchestown.

Paul Carberry tracked the leaders on the 4/7 favourite before moving through to lead before the last.

He kept on strongly on the run-in to record a cosy three-and-a-half length success over Tramp Stamp

"I'll enter him in the November handicap and see what way they assess him," revealed trainer Noel Meade.

"If for some reason Go Native didn't go to the north (Down Royal) that would be an option but he wouldn't run in the November handicap then. It'll be one or the other.

"I probably overdid it a little bit with him last season and I have to stop myself doing that again. After his next run he'll have to mix it with the big boys.

"When he tailed off last year he tailed off very bad. We couldn't find anything wrong with him but it must have been something.

"He had a very hard race against Hurricane Fly and maybe that took more out of him than we thought.

"Then we brought him to Navan at Christmas and that was probably too soon. I just have to mind that I don't do that again."
