Pepperpot grinds out victory

Miss Pepperpot ground out victory in the Templemore Handicap Chase as conditions proved tough in the 2m6f contest at Thurles.

Brian O'Connell had his mount to the fore throughout along with Andrea's Answer and the pair battled it out going to the last.

That rival just had the edge at the final fence but crashed out on landing, leaving Francis Flood's charge to record a two-length victory over 20/1 shot Jolily

The winner, defying a 4lb penalty for her success at Naas last Saturday, was sent off the 7/2 second choice.

3/1 favourite Bale O'Shea weakened after making a couple of mistakes down the back.

"We felt we had to come here because she got a fair rise (9lb)," said Francis Flood junior.

"She was in good form anyway. I thought she was a fortunate winner as the other horse was just outgunning her.

"She was tired coming back and will get a few weeks off. She copes with that heavy ground."
