Quadrillon gets off the mark over fences

Quadrillon a first fence faller on his chase debut, got off the mark at the second time of asking with a hard fought victory in the opener at Gowran Park today.

Paul Townend bounced the 7/4 favourite out in front and he stuck on gamely in the closing stages to secure the victory. Taking Stock and Pay The Bounty threw down challenges in the straight but it was left to the later when Taking Stock crashed out at the second last.

Quadrillon always just held too much for that rival, however, keeping on for pressure on the run-in to record a two-and-a-half length victory.

"He did it well. He got a nice weight allowance which was a big help," said trainer Willie Mullins afterwards.

"He was very unlucky to fall at Fairyhouse when another horse interfered with him.

"He'll go for a novice chase now. He'll have no problem going up in trip to three miles and he might be a better class horse over a longer trip."
