Rebel grabs glory in Dundalk opener

The opening five furlong handicap at Dundalk produced a tight finish with The Grey Rebel bursting through inside the final furlong to land the spoils.

Five held chances in the closing stages but Colm O'Dononghue got his mount to the front to gain a neck success over Flash McGahon

The first five home where seperated by less than a length.

"He's a nice horse and I think he'll get even better next year," said winning trainer David Marnane afterwards.

"He was weak as a two-year-old and we never ran him. He has improved throughout this year.

"I'm glad to see him tackle that trip and he done it well. Colm gave him a good spin."

The winner could turn out again at the track this season:- "He likes it up here and likes the surface," added Marnane.
