The Stewards at Limerick enquired into the running and riding of Knockraha Pylon (Robbie Power aboard for Adrian Maguire), who finished fifth in the fourth race on the card, the Christmas Racing Festival Handicap Hurdle.

Evidence was heard from Mr. Noel O'Brien, Senior National Hunt Handicapper, the rider and trainer concerned.

Mr. O'Brien outlined the animals previous form and stated that this horse was a very consistent type with good form in the past over a variety of trips and ground conditions.

Robbie Power, stated that his instructions were to settle his mount three quarters way back, race slightly wide in search of better ground and to do the best he could, bearing in mind that his mount had not raced for some time.

He said he had never rode this horse before but was very happy with the way it settled and jumped and was satisfied that he had achieved his best possible placing without reverting to the whip, as he felt his mount was giving it's all and there was no need for this.

He further added that his mount stayed on well and should benefit from a longer trip.

Adrian Maguire, confirmed the instructions given and expressed his satisfaction with the ride. He felt that his charge had given it's all and was happy that the rider had not reverted to using his whip.

He stated that his charge was in a fit state to race today despite not appearing on the track for some time and felt annoyed to be questioned on the run.

The Stewards also received a report from the Turf Club Veterinary Officer, who stated that Knockraha Pylon was found to be post race normal.

Having viewed the recording of the race and considered the evidence, the Stewards noted the explanations offered in relation to the running and riding of Knockraha Pylon.

They did, however, find that the trainer was in breach of Rule 272 concerning his conduct in the Stewards room and having considered his previous record in this regard, they fined fined him E250.
