Ryder trains first winner

Former rider Steven Ryder opened his account in the training ranks when Pink Coat made all in the opening two mile maiden hurdle for four-year-old's.

Backed on track from 33/1 into 16/1 at the off, the grey son of Alhaarth stayed on well in the straight for Shane Hassett to beat Trifolium (14/1) by two and a half lengths.

The well-supported Glamorous (4/1-3/1) was another head away in third.

Ryder was not present but his father-in-law Pat Joyce said, “Steven has a restricted licence at the moment but he's done the course for a full trainers licence, and is planning to take that out in the new year.

“This horse has been running well against older horses and we felt he'd a good chance today against his own age group.”

Shane Hassett said, “Nobody wanted to make the running and it worked out perfectly. He was a bit keen but did it well.”
