Scorched Son a first for Conlon

Amateur jockey Aodhagan Conlon recorded his first racecourse winner when partnering Francis Flood's 25/1 chance Scorched Son to win the Cadu Properties Bumper at Tralee today.

The son of Norwich, well beaten in two previous bumper runs, chased the leaders before moving through to lead under one furlong out, eventually running out the neck winner from Commons Glory

Afterwards Fran Flood, son of the winning trainer, reported "Scorched Son travelled well in his race at Galway last time out but for some reason didn't come home. The soft ground probably helped and we'll go for a maiden hurdle next before eventually going chasing."

The win was the first for Conlon, from Dunleer, Co Louth, formerly based with Michael Hourigan and now employed by Flood. The 21 year old had previously partnered five point to point winners.
