In another driving finish at Listowel Shantalla (9/1) held on to deprive Theholeofthemoon in the three mile handicap chase. Allow Ned led throughout and was clear of Alright Benny who in turn had plenty of lengths on the chasing pack.

However, the pace collapsed coming to the second last where Shantalla and Robbie Power hit the front. After the final fence though Theholeofthemoon (10/1) and Robbie Colgan served it right up to Shantalla but went down by a neck.

Donal Hassett [trainer] said before the race that he doesn’t really stay three miles so we dropped him in and took our time and maybe got to the front a bit soon, but I was worried about the two who had gone off in front. Thank God we hung on,” Robbie Power explained.

A delighted owner Anthony Glavin added: “I said there was a day in him and he proved it today. We bred him two miles down the road.”

Again like the previous race there was a gap back to the third, this time nine and a half lengths to Alright Benny (25/1) with Railway Storm at 18/1 giving a place dividend in fourth as 18 went to post in this contest.

A tiring Allow Ned fell at the second last, an obstacle which also claimed Kilmurry Kid #8217;s chances. In fact only eight horses completed the course.
