Paul Deegan is looking to step Sharalam up in company after his improving four-year-old colt took the mile and a half handicap in good style at Leopardstown.

Chris Hayes confidently steered the son of Alamshar into the lead a furlong and a half out from the front-running Jazz Girl and the pair kicked on to win by three and a half lengths and justify 13/8 favouritism. Leah Claire (11/4) stayed on for second under Ronan Whelan to grab second from Midnight Music also at 11/4.

“He’s very progressive and always shows plenty at home. He’s a real smart sort,” Paul Deegan said.

“I’m happy with him. The result never seemed to be in doubt. He might go for a listed race. He learned a lot today and is versatile trip-wise."
