Shane Shortall registered a quick double at Bellewstown this evening when Point Of Rescue proved too strong for hotpot Bosman Rule in the Tote Maiden Hurdle.

All looked to be going to plan for the 8/11 favourite as he hit the front three from home.

The James Nash-trained Point Of Rescue tackled him at the next, however, and got to the front over the last to record a two-and-a-quarter length victory.

The 7/1 winner came into the race with a handicap rating of 92 and Nash said afterwards:- “It wasn't the obvious race to run him in, a maiden hurdle, but it came along and we took our chance. He was getting a nice bit of weight from the top horse.

"His runs up the north (at Downpatrick) proved that he wants three miles – at least. He has been improving and we'll see if we can win another hurdle along the line.

"He's not very big but he jumps well and hopefully he'll jump a fence. That's my first winner for JP McManus so that's an important one."
