Shutter Island wore down Lindenhurst after the last in the extended two mile handicap hurdle at Ballinrobe.

Lindenhurst had got the better of Erlkonig who weakened before the last. However, a clumsy jump at the last saw Lindenhurst lose momentum and Shutter Island, who was improving all the time, jumped it well and knuckled down to beat him by half a length.

Mark Walsh was in the JP McManus colours for trainer Charles O’Brien and the four-year-old son of Jeremy was returned at 7/2. Lindenhurst was sent off the 3/1 favourite and took second for John McConnell and Mark Bolger.

Frank Berry said: “He was good for his first handicap and he jumped quite well. He looked in trouble round the last bend, but he got a good jump at the last. He disappointed the last day in Tipperary, but he just needs a jump in front of him and we’ll look for something similar for him.”
