Steamboat Bill and Jack Kennedy got into top gear after the last to cut down Aughnacurraveel in the Leo Dolan Memorial Handicap at Roscommon.

Aughnacurraveel and Katie O'Farrell looked to have stolen a march as they picked up the running from the second last. However, Steamboat Bill still had plenty in the tank.

The latter stayed on strongest on the run-in of this three mile one race to overpower Aughnacurraveel (in the first-time hood) and win by half a length at 11/2.

The runner-up was a 20/1 chance while Urtheoneiwant (12/1) was a further four lengths away in third.

Handler Gordon Elliott said by phone: "He wouldn't want extremes of ground and I'll speak to the owners about going to Galway. Jack was very good on him."

Steamboat Bill carried top weight of 11-10 against his 14 rivals.

This gave Elliott a double on the card as Delegate also landed race two.
