Like Wayne Lordan in the first on Scream Blue Murder Danny Grant was soon on the fence and at the head of affairs on Little Sweetheart (20/1) in race two at Cork, the Mallow Town Summer BBQ Evening July 11th, and those tactics carried him all the way to a one and three parts of a length success.
If one had known from where the Lawman filly's name derived, she'd have been 'marked down' as one to watch, as the three-year-old sports the same moniker as the Flynn family's foundation mare.
Winning trainer Pat Flynn told the story when saying: "There's a bit of history to this filly. In 1956 Gita Weld (Dermot's late mother and a neighbour in Rathgormac) sold my father a mare (their first thoroughbred) of the same name so I called this one after her.
"After Mrs Weld passed away I wrote a letter to Dermot and mentioned this filly to him.
"I thought the ground was going to be soft here but if I'd known it was yielding I'd have fancied her more. She wants good ground."
S. Foley, rider of Homeric Hymn (FR), trained by Mrs John Harrington, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount never travelled and may appreciate softer ground .
N.G. McCullagh, rider of Balmont Blast trained by Edward Lynam, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount received interference and lost ground at the start.
M.C. Hussey, rider of Russian Roulette trained by Charles O'Brien, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount received interference and lost ground at the start.
C.D. Hayes, rider of Space Velocity trained by A. Oliver, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount suffered interference and lost ground at the start.
The Stewards requested a report from Patrick J.Flynn, trainer as to the apparent improvement in form of Little Sweetheart, placed first, as compared with its recent form.
The trainer reported that his charge disappointed on her last start on heavy ground at Gowran but appreciated the better ground today. He added that his stable is now in better form after a slow start to the season. Having considered the evidence the Stewards noted the explanation offered.
