The Lady Granuaile sails in

The Lady Granuaile caused a 16/1 shock when finishing strongly to land the two and a half mile Newton Abbot Races Handicap Hurdle.

Alan Crowe 's mount was in the air alongside both De Dodger and long-time leader Steele's Rock when the latter fell at the second last.

The Lady Granuaile's stamina really came into play in the closing stages as she got the better of De Dodger (7/1) by half a length, with the pair pulling 11 lengths clear of Knockcroghery (14/1) in third.

Winning trainer Pauline Gavin said, “It's about time she won and to be honest we were thinking of leaving her off for a while as that's not her ground. Alan said she travelled well, and handled that ground today so we'll not give her a break just yet.

“She was not quite right at Galway last time, and we'll step her up to three miles now. She'll go over fences in time.”
