Townend completes Naas treble

Champion Jockey Paul Townend completed a treble at Naas this afternoon when steering Lambro to win the Tipper Road Beginners Chase, which was also a second winner on the day for trainer Willie Mullins.

Lambro eventually shook off the challenge of 13/8 favourite Shinrock Paddy to win comfortably be four and a quarter lengths.

Afterwards Mullins joked “it’s a good day for my point to pointers (both Lambro and Quel Esprit are point to point graduate)!”

“I was a little surprised there – i thought the trip might be a little too short but he more than made up for the lack of distance with his jumping - jumping is his forte. We’ll find a winners’ race over two and a half miles now, and while we know he stays, the fact he jumps so fast means that we can afford to bring him back in trip.”

Lambro was subsequently introduced at 33/1 for both the Arkle and the RSA Chases with Stan James bookmakers.
