Poormans Hill s stamina kicked in up the hill at Downpatrick as he completed his hat-trick at short odds in the MB McGrady & Co, Accountants Handicap Hurdle.

The Stowaway gelding had won twice over fences last month after joining Gordon Elliott and made it three from three for the Cullentra handler back over timber today.

It was a quick double on the card for Elliott and jockey Jack Kennedy following the success of Monkshood 35 minutes earlier.

The 4/9 shot settled in behind the leaders but was niggled along going to the second last having made a mistake at the previous flight.

Kennedy pulled him out to challenge after the last and he soon hit top gear, pulling clear in the closing stages for a four-length success over 33/1 shot Dry Run

"He's a grand, honest horse. It probably just took him a while to get going there today,” said Elliott.

“Jack said it was a messy race and he was stuck behind a few and he might not have jumped as well today coming back to hurdles.

"It was a poor race and he has just about won. He has won three races so job done. I wouldn't say he is a winter horse, if we get another race out of him it would be job done."

Elliott received 240 bottles of Coors Light for his stable staff, courtesy of Molson Coors who have sponsored at each race meeting this year, for being the leading trainer at Downpatrick in 2017.
