Udogo continued a great day for the O’Brien family when taking the Grant Thornton Apprentice Handicap at Leopardstown.
Officially completing a four-timer for Aidan O’Brien, although the gelding will be credited in the care of his son Joseph when he takes out a licence from Sunday, the 11/2 chance was ridden by the Ballydoyle maestro’s younger daughter Ana.
The five-year-old son of Lucky Story led entering the straight and, after asserting over a furlong out, kept on well to beat Call Me Pj by a length and three quarters.
Joseph O’Brien said, “He’s a tough horse and the quick ground helped him. He’s not done much racing on grass, and he seemed to get the trip well.
“Hopefully he’ll get through another one if the handicapper is not too hard on him. He’s not that big but has schooled well over hurdles.”
Earlier in the day Minding won a sixth Investec Oaks for Aidan O’Brien when justifying favouritism under Ryan Moore at Epsom.
